Young Companies

Pegasus Young Companies are at the heart of our activity and integral to the creative and artistic process at Pegasus. Each year the Young Companies work towards a full-scale production, performed at Pegasus Theatre.

Producing quality theatre

The Young Companies are designed for young people who would like to pursue acting, enjoy devising work or enjoy the artistic process of putting on a professional performance. They are a way to gain access to performance opportunities and to develop acting skills and techniques in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

We don’t hold auditions; we welcome anyone with the commitment, enthusiasm and passion to be part of a Pegasus Young Company.

We also run the Technical Young Company, for budding stage technicians and designers aged 14-18.

If the fees are a stretch too far you can pay in instalments before the beginning of your first term.

There are a limited number of free supported places available. Please email participation@pegasustheatre.org.uk for more details on these.

There are three groups: the Young Company 11-15, Young Company 16-25 and the Technical Young Company 14-18. Intake for the 11-15 group is every September, the 16-25 group is every January and we are currently accepting new members to the technical group in January, April and September.

Young Company 11-15

Young Company 11-15 is led by John McCraw, our Creative Learning Director at Pegasus.

Join Pegasus Young Company 11-15 to learn new skills and perfect old ones, with a focus toward performing an exhilarating piece of contemporary theatre. Bring your creativity, energy and an open mind, as we take you on an exciting journey from the rehearsal room to centre stage. All levels of skill and experience are welcome.

Sessions run Wednesdays 4:30pm – 6pm.

Term Dates 2024/25

Weds 11 September 2024 – Weds 27 November 2024 (no session on 30 October due to half term)
Weds 15 Jan 2025 – Weds 2 April 2025 (no session 14 February due to half term)
Weds 23 April 2025 – Sat 12 July 2025 (no session 28 May due to half term)

Additionally, there will be 2 Saturday rehearsals from 12:00 – 6:00pm in the Summer 2025 term on 10 May and 21 June. In the final production week (w/c 7 July) participants will be required every evening for technical and dress rehearsals and public performances.

Young Company 16-25

Join our Pegasus Young Company 16-25 to embark on an exciting collaborative journey. For all the young theatre makers out there, this is an opportunity to devise a production with us and to perform a professional-quality play at Pegasus, working with local director Emma Webb. All levels of skill and experience are welcome.

Sessions run Wednesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Term dates 2024

Spring: Jan 10 – March 27
Summer: April 17 to July 3
Autumn: September 11 to Dec 4 with performances on 6 and 7 December.

There will be an additional 4-day rehearsal week in the autumn half term (dates tbc), and an additional Saturday rehearsal ahead of production week. In the final production week (2-7 December) participants will be required every evening for technical and dress rehearsals and public performances

Technical Young Company 14-18

Pegasus Technical Young Company is a programme for budding stage technicians and designers aged 14-18.

The skills you’ll develop during your time with us will introduce you to a variety of professional roles within the backstage industry. This experience offers a combination of studying technical and design skills with an integrated stage and production management focus, developing your ability to work as part of the team behind the curtain.

You will be introduced to key technical elements of theatre production, while also providing wider theatrical context. We explore the following key disciplines:

Lighting Design, Equipment and Operation
Sound Design, Recording and Operation
Set, Props and Costume Design
Stage Management

By using and developing these skills, you will work as designers, stage managers and technicians on the PYC 11-15 and 16-25 productions to bring the magic of theatre to life.

Sessions run weekly on Thursdays from 6:45 – 8:15pm in the Autumn term. No previous experience necessary.

Term Dates Autumn 2024

12 September – 7 December. As well as weekly sessions, there will be an additional 3 days in the autumn: 2 days during half term, week commencing 28 October (dates tbc) from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and on Saturday 30 November from 10:00am to 4:00pm ahead of production week.
In the final production week (2-7 December) Technical Young Company will be required every evening for technical and dress rehearsals and public performances.

You can guarantee your place by paying in full if you wish to, or with a non-refundable first instalment payment of £10 and then up to 4 further instalments to complete payment before the start of term.
