Supporting your needs at Pegasus
Our number one priority is to provide high quality cultural opportunities and activity for the young people of Oxfordshire. We’ve listed some of the ways in which we aim to be accessible and inclusive below but if you need extra support, be that physical or financial, to engage with us then please get in touch – call 01865 812 150 or email boxoffice@pegasustheatre.org.uk.
Visiting the building
The main entrance has automatic doors and the whole building is wheelchair accessible with a lift to the first floor.
Assistance dogs are welcome, water is available on request.
We have gender neutral, wheelchair accessible toilets on both floors of the building, including backstage.
We have baby changing facilities on the first floor as well as a potty-training seat and step. You are welcome to breastfeed wherever you feel comfortable.
There is limited parking on the streets near Pegasus, even for Blue Badge holders. We have two disabled parking spaces to the rear of the theatre which can be reserved in advance. If you would like to book a space or if you need assistance with a drop off or pick up, please contact our Box Office.
If you need large print or audio versions of any of our fliers please ask.
Watching a show
We can accommodate wheelchairs in the Pullman Stage but the number varies depending on the auditorium format and the size of the chair. If you book a wheelchair space online a member of our Box Office team will contact you to check your requirements.
Seating is usually unallocated. If you need us to reserve you a seat in a specific area of the auditorium for an access reason (eg with no steps, near the front or near an aisle) please let us know when you make your booking and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
The Pullman Stage performance space has an induction loop sound system for the hearing impaired.
Some of the companies who visit us will be able to sign (usually using British Sign Language), caption or describe their performance to assist those who may need help to hear or see the details. This information will be displayed on the individual show page but if you would like more information please contact the Box Office.
Occasionally we run relaxed performances. These are open to everyone but are of particular benefit to someone with autism, sensory and communication needs and/or a learning disability. The performance is adjusted to reduce anxiety or stress, for example changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprise and soften their impact. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and moving around the auditorium during the performance. Relaxed performances are often accompanied by a visual story to help prepare for your visit.
During most performances audiences can come and go as they need and we have a show relay screen in the foyer if you need to relax in a different space. You may be asked to wait until an appropriate moment in the performance to re-enter the auditorium. This is for the safety of the performers and/or the impact on other audience members.
Most of our shows have a concession available for those 25 or under, students, seniors, benefit recipients and Equity members. A free carer ticket is available for those who need assistance to visit the venue.
Unless a performance is aimed at 0 to 12 months, babies less than 6 months old are welcome to family specific performances but will require a ‘free lap’ addition to your ticket which can be booked via the Box Office.
Buggies, prams, pushchairs and scooters cannot be taken into the auditorium but can be stored front of house during a performance.
It can sometimes help to come and visit us before a theatre trip. If you’d like to arrange a pre-visit please contact the Box Office who will arrange an appropriate time for you.
Participating in a course or an activity
Pegasus offers a number of free and supported places on all of our classes for young people who might need further assistance in order to take part. One-to-one enabler assistance for young people attending classes can also be offered, subject to funding, for participants with additional support needs. Please contact our Participation Manager for further details.
Pegasus runs several inclusion projects designed to offer opportunities for vulnerable or marginalised young people to participate at the theatre. More information about these Pegasus projects can be found here.
Pegasus is proud to be a part of the RoaR Partnership, supporting and promoting disability arts alongside other organisations in Oxfordshire.
